An Easy Hunting Gear Checklist
My buddy Shannon will be going on his first ever deer hunting trip with the crew this year. I’m pretty jacked up to get out there on the river in a month. Yes, you heard me right – On the river. I’ll fill you in on the details later, but first let’s get into the hunting gear checklist you’ll need for your trip.
Shannon wanted to see a gear list for things that he should bring on the trip. I’m going to include the gear list I use for hunting, and would like to see if there’s anything else I’m missing.
Leave a comment at the bottom for any key hunting itemas I missed.

Cast and Blast
We do this trip where we float down the river in drift boats for deer hunting season. We camp at a spot for the week, hunt deer for the first part and fish for steelhead on the second half of the trip. It’s pretty freakin awesome. If all goes well, we’ll have deer for the freezer and steelhead for the bbcue.
We call it the cast and blast trip.
Conclusion
Reviewing your hunting gear list is important before heading out on the big trip. Stop right now, and go grab your hunting gear list. Do you have everything on it? If don’t have a list, take a look at mine above to get you started. Is there a piece of gear I missed? Leave a comment below if there is a biggie I missed.
Dave-what about knives? Seems like you’d need a gutting knife. Is this the same one used for skinning? Zip tie for securing the tag on the head?
Yes, knives are important. You want a moderate sized blade, but anything sharp will work. There are special hunting knifes with gut hooks you can get like this one: http://amzn.to/1O9DE6I but aren’t required. Just make sure your knife is sharp. I use twine and tape to tie my hunting tag on the horns.
Always have my basic safety items; side arm, knife, first aid kit, compass, whistle, fire starter, etc. & bag of easy snacks (trail mix, jerky, granola…)
Great additions to the list. I think safety should always be up in front of everything else. Thank you for the reminder! I hope you have a great season out there. It would be awesome if you checked back in with a photo from the season.
